Week 1 - Stamps and Multiples

We started off by making stamps, once fired these will be used to sign all futur work with by stamping them into the base so everyone
can see who made them.

I think my clay was a bit dry but I sucessfuly created a few different designs, using

random objects as well as trying out some other peoples stamps.
After a bit of practice I made 4 or 5 different ones which will befire before next week and I will stick some photos up of my efforts. It was interesting exploring the positive and negative imprints made by mundane objects and it was quite a nice gentle introduction to the clay.

Today we also explored repetition and multiple objects, I chose to make some finger bowls ( made by simple squashing your finger into the centre or a small sphere of
clay) we then had to arrange them in interesting ways hopefully getting inspired and discovering new forms along the way, here are some of my efforts. I preferred the rounded back of the bowls to the concave fronts and I like the fact that they are all slightly different sizes.

Seeing these images here I'm slightly disappointed that they don't animate, also, a lot of these pictures are going to be pretty grey.

Pottery Blog

Having always wanted to have a go, I enrolled on a pottery class this week, this blog will be a record of how I get on and probably alot of pictures of mishaped clay objects and hopeful culminating in full size terracotta army. Enjoy!
